Omnibus VI: cosmetic safety reaffirmed

Following the vote on Omnibus VI in the European Parliament, FEBEA reiterates that cosmetics regulation in Europe remains among the strictest in the world. No product can be placed on the market without a safety assessment carried out by a qualified expert, and CMR substances remain prohibited by default. The text does not aim to relax the framework, but to clarify it, notably by simplifying derogation conditions and introducing clear timelines for procedures. It also reaffirms an approach based on actual risk, taking into account conditions of use rather than the intrinsic hazard of substances alone. In a context of increasing competition, the European industry thus seeks to ensure a high level of consumer protection while improving regulatory clarity.
