The Indonesian government has postponed the mandatory halal certification deadline from October 2026 to October 2028 for several product categories, including cosmetics, health supplements, traditional medicines, chemical products and certain consumer goods. The measure, set out in Articles 160 and 161 of Government Regulation PP No. 42/2024, also applies to some food categories and foreign companies.
Authorities say the adjustment reflects the current readiness of Indonesia’s halal ecosystem. The policy also revokes BPJPH Regulation No. 4 of 2026 on inspections of imported halal products and includes a broader review of the regulatory framework. Further details are still expected in forthcoming regulations.
