Kao tackles post-color hair damage

The Japanese group has identified a previously unknown mechanism showing that the hair fibre continues to deteriorate during the seven days following hair colouring. Presented at the 14th World Congress for Hair Research, the findings reveal that the breakdown of disulfide bonds, which are essential to hair strength, continues after the colouring process, leading to dryness, frizz and colour fading. To address this phenomenon, Kao has developed Hair Link Protection, a technology designed to stabilize these internal bonds, helping to limit delayed damage while preserving both hair quality and colour intensity. This innovation introduces a new approach to hair care by targeting not only the immediate effects of colouring, but also the degradation that continues in the days afterwards.
