England bans plastic wet wipes

18 November 2025 marks, in England, the adoption of a law banning the sale and supply of plastic wet wipes, with entry into force scheduled for spring 2027. Medical uses are exempt. This decision is a major step forward in protecting wildlife in oceans, rivers and lakes. When flushed down the loo, these highly durable wipes clog sewers, pollute water and wash up on beaches. Several retailers have already stopped selling them. While Wales has passed similar legislation, Northern Ireland and Scotland are expected to follow suit by the end of the year.
