Berjé secures a traceable buchu supply chain
Berjé Inc. and Waterfall Health Farms have won Bronze at the 2026 IFEAT Sustainability Awards in the SME category for their Buchu Model, developed with the Buchu Association and the National Khoi and San Council. The project aims to balance commercial demand with protection of this South African native plant, while improving traceability and community benefits.
During the 2025-26 season, wild harvesting accounted for just 4.36% of total volume, with responsible cultivation now providing the majority of commercial supply. The chain is traceable to farm, growing block, grower and supplier, while water use fell by 28% between January and September 2026 compared with the same period in 2025. The partnership also includes an Access and Benefit Sharing framework, with a budget equivalent to 4% of turnover allocated notably to skills development and engagement with Khoi and San Traditional Knowledge Holders.
