Azitra brings its recombinant proteins into cosmetics

The US biotech company is extending its microbial genetic engineering platform into cosmetics with ATR-COSF, a recombinant protein technology designed for skincare applications. The programme notably targets fine lines and wrinkles and is due to undergo a human cosmetic application study.

This diversification brings expertise developed by Azitra at the intersection of microbial biology and protein engineering into the beauty sector. More broadly, the company’s platforms combine engineered proteins, topical live biotherapeutics, artificial intelligence and a proprietary microbial library.

ATR-COSF nevertheless remains at an early stage of development: the initial data announced have yet to be published and the planned human cosmetic application study has yet to be conducted.
