Lumoria explores nanocolloids for active delivery

The Etaerion™ materials platform, developed by US company Paretor, is being adapted for skin applications. A new venture, Lumoria Skin Science, will lead its development and commercialisation across skincare, skin longevity and aesthetics, while Paretor will continue to develop and manufacture the materials. The partnership is also based on a joint invention, with the resulting intellectual property to be jointly owned by the two companies.

The technology uses nanocolloids that can be loaded with actives, creating a delivery platform for the skin. Lumoria aims to address a key formulation challenge: presenting actives in a form suited to their biological environment and optimising their delivery to the intended target. Paretor also reports observations relating to oxidative stress and cell viability under stress, which helped drive the platform’s development towards skin applications.

The project nevertheless remains at an early stage: no data have yet been disclosed on the precise composition or size of the nanocolloids, the nature of the actives already loaded, their release mechanism or their in vivo performance. At this stage, its interest therefore lies in bringing to cosmetics and aesthetics a materials science technology originally developed for biological delivery and bioprocessing.
