The Japanese group has demonstrated that skin sensitivity is linked to the excessive extension of nerve fibres in the stratum corneum, caused by impaired epidermal tight junctions. A formulation containing γ-amino-β-hydroxybutyric acid, applied for eight weeks, significantly reduced tingling and burning sensations in volunteers with sensitive skin. These findings were presented at the 50th convention of the Japanese Cosmetic Science Society in Tokyo.
