Green microextraction: The future of quality control?

The Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Analysis at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece) has confirmed the significant potential of green extraction processes for detecting organic and inorganic substances. Solid-phase microextraction (SPME), stir-bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) and dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (DLLME) offer miniaturised, rapid, and solvent-efficient protocols, while ensuring increased selectivity and sensitivity for the analysis of complex matrices. However, to ensure their long-term viability, these techniques must now become more robust and be automated.
