Eucerin turns to live probiotics

After more than 20 years of research into the skin microbiome, Beiersdorf is taking a new approach to caring for acne-prone skin with Eucerin Dermopure Clinical Probiom8. This eight-week topical regimen is based on TopiC.A^™, a patented probiotic technology combining two live bacterial strains, CA-31 and CA-81, originally isolated from healthy skin. Kept dormant within the formulation, they are activated during use to help rebalance the skin microbiome.

Above all, the approach marks a shift in strategy: rather than broadly targeting microorganisms on the skin’s surface, Beiersdorf is introducing selected beneficial bacteria that are native to the skin. Probiom8 is the culmination of more than two decades of research, further strengthened by the acquisition in 2022 of S-Biomedic, a company specialising in the microbiome.

The innovation is also strategically significant for the Group, which sees the microbiome as one of the next frontiers for its dermocosmetics R&D. Even before launch, Beiersdorf had identified Probiom8 as a major innovation in its pipeline, following evaluations involving dermatologists and several thousand consumers.
