The Swiss group has initiated patent infringement proceedings before the Xiong’An New District Court in China’s Hebei Province against several local entities, including a sclareol producer and a research institute. It alleges the unauthorised use of its patented technology for the biotechnological production of sclareol, an intermediate used notably in the manufacture of amber ingredients such as Ambrox® Super.

DSM-Firmenich is asking the court to order an end to the alleged unauthorised use and award compensation for the claimed infringement. The company stresses that it holds intellectual property rights and know-how relating to sclareol and its derivatives, which it intends to protect through the necessary legal channels.
