Chanel and Hydro reduce the carbon footprint of aluminium

Chanel Fragrance and Beauty and the Norwegian aluminium specialist have signed a partnership to develop low-carbon aluminium for fragrance, make-up and skincare packaging between 2026 and 2030. Their goal is to achieve a carbon footprint of close to 3kg CO₂e per kilogram of aluminium by 2030, without compromising on quality, performance or design.
The initial work will focus on Hydro Reduxa, a primary aluminium produced in Norway using renewable energy, with a certified carbon footprint of no more than 4kg CO₂e/kg, compared with a global average of 14.8kg according to the International Aluminium Institute. The partnership will also focus on material traceability and increasing the use of aluminium recovered from end-of-life products.
