The Chinese cosmetics group, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, marking its fifteenth consecutive year of non-financial reporting. In the document, Chando outlines its roadmap to 2030, centred on decarbonisation, biodiversity, responsible innovation and social impact.
Among the targets announced is a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, using 2023 as the baseline year, in line with the principles of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The group has also expanded its reporting framework to include six key Scope 3 categories.
On the cosmetics front, Chando highlights its innovation strategy based on biotechnology and the sustainable valorisation of Himalayan botanical resources. In 2025, the company secured approval for the first new cosmetic ingredient originating from Tibet, derived from Gentiana veitchiorum. This was followed in 2026 by the approval of a raw material developed from cell cultures of Saussurea laniceps, a rare protected alpine plant. The group also points to advances in precision fermentation through HiMurchaSin, a proprietary active ingredient whose manufacturing process is said to increase extraction efficiency by 300% while reducing energy consumption by 25%.
Chando further reports 559 patent applications, including 290 invention patents, alongside stronger-than-expected growth in 2025. Through these investments, the manufacturer aims to strengthen its control over strategic ingredients while positioning sustainability as a key differentiator in the Chinese beauty market.
