The German chemical group has commissioned three new large-scale industrial facilities dedicated to aromatic ingredients. Two production units for menthol and linalool have been inaugurated in Ludwigshafen (Germany), while a third, focused on citral, has been opened in Zhanjiang, China. This investment, estimated at several hundred million euros, aims to meet growing global demand for aromatic ingredients, particularly used in the perfume, cosmetics, food, and pharmaceutical industries.

The new Chinese plant will supply both the local market and European production chains, thereby strengthening the group’s supply security. In Ludwigshafen, around 60 jobs have been created with the start of production in April 2026.

BASF emphasizes that these new capacities are part of its strategy for international expansion and optimization of its industrial network, while also contributing to its sustainability objectives.
