Initiated in 2018 by the Savoy-based genetics specialist DNA Gensee, the coalition presented its "DNA barcoding" technology at in-cosmetics Global in Paris. The aim is to secure the authenticity and traceability of botanical ingredients, thereby strengthening confidence in natural supply chains. This genetic analytical technique addresses several high-risk counterfeiting scenarios by precisely identifying species, combating fraud and ensuring ethical compliance – in particular by preventing the overexploitation of protected species. The consortium – which brings together global leaders such as L’Oréal, Greentech, Clarins and Croda – will take part in CFIB 2026, the botanical ingredients Conference organised by Extrasynthese and BotaniCERT, taking place from 16 to 18 September in Grasse.
