The industry now has reliable data on the carbon footprint and recyclability of zamak, following the official publication of data by Ecoinvent, the specialised organisation in life cycle assessment (LCA). Long considered environmentally unfavourable due to a lack of field data, this material has now seen its profile re-evaluated. Its carbon footprint has dropped from around 2,400 kg of CO2/tonne to less than 671 kg. Furthermore, the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) has confirmed the recyclability of zamak on the European market, validating its use in packaging under the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) framework. As a committed advocate for Zamak, Segede has acted as a bridge between field-collected data and the CEN's work. The company's commitment to ecological transition has been recognised with an EcoVadis gold medal for its French production site.
