The rise of biotechnology, along with unprecedented demand for vegan and sustainable proteins, is propelling the global precision fermentation market into a new era. According to MarkNtel Advisors, the sector is expected to grow from $7.4 bn (about €6.3 bn) in 2026 to nearly $57.1 bn (about €48.5 bn) by 2032, boosted by an annual growth of +40.57%. Food and beverages dominate the sector (62% of the market share). Yeast is at the heart of this revolution and is identified as the cornerstone of biotechnology, accounting on its own, for around 42% of global activity. This momentum is accelerating further with artificial intelligence. Geographically, Europe leads the way with nearly half of the global market share. The region relies on a mature ecosystem of start-ups and research institutions, backed by massive strategic investment from both the public and private sectors. Finally, the implementation of an increasingly clear legislative framework in other regions and ongoing investment are removing the final barriers to the adoption of these disruptive technologies.
