According to Future Market Insights, the global market for microalgae in cosmetics could reach $117 m (about €101.56 m) by 2035, up from $68.5 m (about €58.2 m) in 2025. This growth is being driven by several factors: the rise of clean beauty, the demand for natural and eco-friendly ingredients, and advances in biotechnology. Microalgae are rich in antioxidants, carotenoids and essential fatty acids, and are therefore attractive to brands due to their anti-ageing, moisturising and UV-protective properties. Spirulina already dominates this segment, while the Asia-Pacific region is emerging as the most dynamic market. Despite being held back by high production costs, this niche market could nevertheless establish itself in next-generation formulations.
