The Danish start-up has been awarded €8.1 million from the European LIFE programme to scale up production of its EcoFlexy platform. This bio-based material, made from cellulose, aims to replace fossil-based rheology modifiers found in many formulations. The first product, EcoFlexy Rheo, is a competitive, biodegradable alternative to carbomers, which account for a significant proportion of microplastics. The Biocare4Life project is expected to prevent up to 1,289 tonnes of annual emissions by 2034, while meeting industry performance requirements.
